Fundamentals of Digital Accessibility (Self-Paced)

- All employees across the UH System are welcome to enroll in the fully online, self-paced, Kapi‘olani-created professional development program focused on Digital Accessibility! This is a low-pressure, self-paced learning resource with the option to complete a competency assessment to earn a digital credential. Learn about important fundamental concepts of accessibility and – most importantly – how to apply your new knowledge to your digital learning content! The anytime/anywhere format makes this a flexible way to learn (and re-visit) key constructs.

Extreme Makeover, Laulima Edition (Self-Paced)
- Ongoing, Self-Paced
- This resource is designed for any and all Laulima users who want to breathe new life into their lesson pages – easily! Whether you’re teaching online, hybrid, or face-to-face classes or you’re presenting professional development, orientation, outreach or any other material with Laulima lessons, you’re welcome and encouraged to check it out.Browse a portfolio of easy-to-install themes to style your lesson pages. There are options for everyone, from those who instantly want a new look with a few clicks to those who wish to tinker and tweak to their heart’s content!
- Easy Peasy: Apply the style sheet and get a whole new vibe with just a few clicks! Not in love? Delete and try a new theme on for size.
- A Little Extra: Custom weekly banners and matching YouTube thumbnails are included and can be seamlessly integrated for function and visual interest.
- I Want to Control All the Things!: By popular request, the site includes resources to fully geek out about visual design for Laulima and truly go down the CSS customization rabbit hole for those who are super into this sorta thing.

2022 Workshops
TOPP TECH BASICS
- March 14-18, 2022
- Online Synchronous (M-F, 10 am to 12:15 pm)
- Still apprehensive about putting students into Zoom breakout rooms? Want to make that leap from Microsoft Word to Google Docs? Need time to learn about the awesome tools in Laulima? If so, we’ve got you covered! Pre-TOPP Tech Basics is an intensive, one-week course split into three parts – Zoom, Google Apps and Laulima Basics. Tech Basics is for any faculty who wishes to strengthen their teaching skills using these three platforms. By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Host and manage online meetings in Zoom.
- Design and facilitate learning through Google Workspace Apps.
- Use basic Laulima tools for teaching and learning.
TOPP Course Planning for Active Learning
- May 23 – June 3, 2022
- Online Sync & Async (2 required synchronous meetings)
- Would you take a trip without first studying a map and carefully planning your itinerary? Likewise, you need a carefully crafted course map for active learning in your online/hybrid course by aligning activities, assessments, and resources to the student learning outcomes (SLOs). Design your course with clear objectives and well-planned learning experiences that help your learners to actively engage and take ownership of their learning. By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Articulate why planning and designing active learning are important.
- Identify (or create) the course learning outcomes.
- Plan summative assessment(s) that demonstrate proficiency of outcomes.
- Identify module-level learning outcomes.
- Plan weekly lesson plans (formative assessments) that facilitate learning toward outcomes.
This will be a collaborative program with UH Maui College but open to any UH faculty. A completed course map will be required to continue onto TOPP Building an Online Classroom (Kapi‘olani CC) and is recommended for Distance Online Teaching Program (UHMC).

TOPP Building an Online Classroom
- June 6 – July 1, 2022
- Online & Mostly Asynchronous
- Pandemic has made all of us into online teachers in a hurry. Do you plan to continue teaching online or hybrid? Want to learn how to engage students, facilitate active learning, and discover the rules, regulations, and technology framework in delivering online/hybrid learning? Join your colleagues to experience being an online learner while building rich learning experiences for your students. By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Articulate Distance Education rules & regulations
- Create engaging Laulima Lessons pages
- Create and facilitate a learning community
- Integrate Web 2.0 tools to create engaging activities
- Debate synchronous vs. asynchronous and strengthen the selected mode
To be considered for this module, you should have either completed TOPP Course Planning for Active Learning and/or created a Course Map for one of the courses that you plan to teach. TOPP Tech Basics is highly recommended if you would like to boost your technology skills prior to starting TOPP.
