Kapi’olani Community College Foundations Board Foundations Hallmarks and Interpretation Below are the Foundations Hallmarks and Explanatory Notes in use by any campus that has joined the multicampus Foundations agreement. (As of Fall, 2007, that includes UHM, KapCC, HonCC, LCC, and WCC.) In joining this agreement, campuses agreed on “acceptance of the UHM foundations hallmarks and UHM’s interpretation of those hallmarks for purposes of course designation (Ebert memo, 20/05/04).” Each Foundations Board can supplement the Hallmarks and Explanatory Notes, however, with any additional information that might be useful to future Board members. The information below was copied from UHM’s web site […]

Foundations Renewal Process In 2002, UH-Manoa adopted new General Education Core requirements that include a Foundations group of courses in Symbolic Reasoning, Written Communications, and Global & Multicultural Perspectives. To facilitate articulation, KCC adopted the same requirements for the AA Degree and negotiated agreements with UH-Manoa and Honolulu Community College to accept recommendations from each campus’ Foundations Board regarding designation and renewal of Foundations courses. The Foundations Board initially approves Foundations courses for five years and they must be reviewed and renewed during the final year of this period to maintain Foundations status. Each renewal allows a course to carry […]

Foundations Designation Process The Foundations Board reviews all requests that a course be designated as satisfying an AA degree Foundations requirement. Requests are submitted directly from the Department Chair to the Board (not to the Curriculum Committee, Faculty Senate, or Dean of Instruction). Carefully review the Hallmarks for the Foundations category of interest when deciding whether to propose a course, as your proposal will need to demonstrate clearly how the course meets each Hallmark. It may help to review proposals for other courses that have been accepted in that category. Also, the proposer should be aware that: If a course […]
